The film, starring Alan Rickman, Mary Steenburgen and Eliza Dushku, will be given away on Sunday (4 October). The title will be distributed with the Mail on Sunday on 4 October.

The Mail on Sunday bought the rights to the film and it has not had a cinema publication was the first newspaper to be the exclusive distribution channel for new full-length CDs when it secured a deal to release Prince’s new album Planet Earth in 2007.

Associated Newspapers chief marketing officer Roland Agambar says: “No other paper has ever done anything like this before. While the Mail on Sunday is always interested in ‘exclusive firsts’, it’s always content dependent. We saw Nobel Son as a great opportunity premier an exciting film in the UK and we hope that offers such as this will bring new readers to the paper.”

The film tells of a student whose father, Eli, wins the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. However, when the student is kidnapped on the eve of his father accepting the prize, Eli refuses to pay the ransom, setting in motion a story of betrayal and revenge.

The Mail on Sunday posted an average net circulation of 2,171,686 in August, down 0.32% on July and down 4.45% for the six months March to August, year-on-year.

Parent company DMGT reported revenues down 9% for the 11 months of the year so far yesterday (29 September) but says it expects to meet the Market’s expectations.
