M&S results show improvement
Marks and Spencer is showing “continued improvement” with sales up in second quarter sales figures.
The high street stalwart enjoyed a fourth consecutive quarter of improved like-for-like sales down 0.5% against total sales up 1.9% in the 13 weeks to 26 September.
Sales were driven by clothing, which saw sales up 2.7% while home sales are still struggling, down 1.8% on a year ago.
During the period, M&S boosted its clothing offer with the launch of Indigo, a new casual womenswear range and a new collaboration with menswear designer Jsen Wintle.
Food sales also performed well up 1.7% as a result of “sharper values, better availability and product innovation” thanks to the
Chairman, Sir Stuart Rose says: “We are pleased to report continuing improvement in our performance. This demonstrates the actions we are taking are working.”
The retailer’s online business reported a sales increase of 30% while its international business saw sales up 9.6%.
Earlier this month M&S revealed a new range of branded ciders, beers and ales in a bid to match its existing wine selection.
The retailer is now readying its Christmas campaign.
