Sky Networks appoints BBC marketer

BSkyB has appointed BBC Vision chief marketer Naomi Gibney as director of marketing and communications for Sky Networks.

She replaces Alex Lewis, who this year moved to take the role of marketing director for BSkyB’s sister company News International’s The Times and The Sunday Times.

Gibney will be responsible for all content and channel-led marketing activity across Sky’s portfolio of entertainment channels, which include Sky1, Sky Movies, Sky Arts and Sky Real Lives.

She will report to Robert Tansey, Sky director of brand marketing.

Gibney joins from the BBC where she held the position of marketing director for BBC Vision. In this role she was responsible for all on- and off-air marketing and publicity for BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three, BBC Four, CBBC, CBeebies, BBC HD and BBC Films.

She joined the BBC in 2002 as head of marketing for the broadcaster’s children’s channels.

Meanwhile, Sky is understood to be undertaking a major rebrand in a bid to create a more customer-friendly image.

The broadcaster is planning to redesign the Sky logo with a more rounded “S” that will feature in a new marketing campaign in the lead-up to the Christmas season.

Group brand marketing director Andy Brent left the broadcaster last month after a year in the role. Tansey has taken on his responsibilities in the interim while the broadcaster hunts his replacement.
