The new global marketing director role has been created as part of Barbour’s strategy to strengthen its international team and grow Barbour as a lifestyle brand.

Burnand is tasked with bringing together the brand’s international markets and developing a consistent brand message across all its markets including Germany, Spain, the US and Japan.

Burnand will be based in the UK between Barbour’s South Shields and London offices.

Previously Burnand was vice president of strategy and marketing for the Europe and Asia Pacific regions at VF Corporation, which owns jeans brands Wrangler and Lee and outdoor brands The North Face and Nautica.

Barbour has also appointed Simon Harris, formerly sales director at clothing brand Duffer, as its Asia sales manager, tasked with developing the brand in the Asian market.

Steve Buck, managing director of Barbour says: “Developing the Barbour brand globally is one of our key strategic objectives and their wealth of experience and expertise in this area strengthens our international team and enables us to take the brand forward into new markets. “

The brand has renewed its appeal to younger audiences in recent years with contemporary tailoring and been boosted by young celebrities including Lily Allen and the Arctic Monkeys wearing its signature wax-jackets.
