Waitrose plots alcohol education campaign

Waitrose is developing a campaign with the British Liver Trust to promote responsible drinking.

The supermarket is in early discussions with the charity to create a consumer-facing campaign as part of its commitment to responsible alcohol retailing.

Speaking at a House of Commons Health Committee inquiry into alcohol yesterday (15 October), Giles Fisher, head of alcohol buying at Waitrose, says the campaign will build on its online and in-store education programmes.

He adds the campaign could include messages encouraging drinkers to take time off from drinking.

The supermarket’s responsible drinking initiatives include an education programme through its website about units of alcohol and a guide to responsible drinking.

It is also contributes to the industry-funded charity Drinkaware and Responsible Drinks Retailing, an initiative to support the Government’s Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy.

The British Liver Trust is a national charity that aims to reduce the impact of liver disease in the UK.
