Keith Mills’ yachting team hires former O2 marketer

Teamorigin, the yacht racing team set up by Air Miles founder Sir Keith Mills, has hired former O2 marketer Jon Teeman to secure commercial partnerships for the outfit ahead of the 34th America’s Cup competition.

Before taking on his new partner development director role, Teeman was a sponsorship consultant and oversaw the rebrand of BT Cellnet to O2, brokering the brand’s subsequent sponsorship deals with England Rugby Football Union and Arsenal Football Club.

Teeman was also previously head of partnership marketing at Arsenal.

In September, Teamorigin entered into a partnership with not-for-profit company Carbon Trust.

As part of the “Race for Change” campaign with The Carbon Trust, Teeman is hunting four commercial partners that share Teamorigin’s “vision and commitment to the sustainability agenda” and work to drive action for climate change.

Teeman will continue in his role as non-executive chairman of sports and communications consultancy Pitch, alongside his new role with the yacht racing team.

He says: “We hope to attract partners that see this as an opportunity to benefit from the high profile and emotive pull of a global sports story.”
