Absolute Radio launches 80s station

Absolute Radio is launching a radio station devoted to music of the decade under the banner Absolute 80s.

Spandau Ballet

The programming will target 30-54 year olds and the music policy will be based on 80s pop and rock with acts such as Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Depeche Mode and Spandau Ballet (pictured). The station will be streamed nationwide on the internet and on digital DAB in London on the slot currently held by Absolute Xtreme.

It launches in early December and will offer partners commercial opportunities.

The programming of Absolute Xtreme, targeting 16-35 year olds, will move across to the station’s newly launched dabbl offering. The music policy will include new music, live music and tracks from the 90s.

Dabbl, streamed on the internet and on DAB in London, allows listeners to directly choose the music played based on a vote system developed in-house by Golden Square Labs.

Absolute Radio celebrated its first birthday this year.
