The “Reward & Recycle” scheme rewards customers that hand in old mobile phones, laptops and MP3 players with cash rewards.
As part of its support package, the mobile phone operator has also introduced “Copy & Keep” which allows customers to transfer data such as contacts, music and photos from old handsets to new handsets in-store.
Orange says that two thirds of British consumers have old handsets at home, and the scheme will help reduce the number of electronic products going to landfill.
the retailer also claims that 38% of consumers don’t know how to back up the data on their electronic devices and the service will make it easier for customers to make use of the recycling scheme.
Both services are available in all Orange high-street stores, to everyone, including non-Orange customers. Cash rewards will vary depending on the handset and its condition.
Orange announced this week that it will start selling the iPhone on monthly contract and pay-as-you-go, on 10 November.
