Nectar card owner puts PepsiCo boss at Euro helm

Groupe Aeroplan, the company that owns Nectar card and Carlson Marketing, has named PepsiCo marketer David Johnston as president and chief executive of its European division.

Johnston joins from Pepsico International, where he most recently held the position of general manager, Quaker Tropicana, UK. He was previously vice-president of beverages marketing for Europe.

Johnston takes up his position in January and will be based in London. He will have leadership responsibility for Groupe Aeroplan’s European-based businesses, including data analytics business LMG Insight and Communication.

He will also oversee Rewards Management Middle East, the operator of Air Miles programmes in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain, and the new coalition loyalty programme in Italy that launches early 2010. However, his role excludes leadership responsibility for any Carlson Marketing businesses.

Johnston also takes the title executive vice-president of Groupe Aeroplan and will sit on the board. He reports to Rupert Duchesne, president and chief executive of Groupe Aeroplan.

“This appointment marks an important step in the growth of Groupe Aeroplan’s position as the leading global loyalty management provider,” says Duchesne. “With David’s appointment, we have added significant power to our talent base in Europe.”
