Ofcom receives X-factor complaints
ITV and Ofcom have both received complaints about talent show The X Factor following Saturday’s (7 November) controversial show that saw Simon Cowell put the decision to keep twins John and Edward in the show to a public vote.
The commercial TV channel has confirmed it has received 3,000 complaints about the show.
An Ofcom spokesman could not confirm the number or nature of complaints it has received. The broadcasting regulator may launch an investigation into the show. Details are expected tomorrow (11 November).
The X Factor is one of ITV’s biggest generators of advertising revenue. The series is currently sponsored by broadband and mobile operator Talk Talk.
Welsh singer, Lucie Jones, was kicked off the ITV show after Simon Cowell, who had the deciding vote between the 18-year-old singer and the twins, who have been nicknamed “Jedward” by the public.
By opting for the twins, in what is being called a “U-turn” for the record producer, Cowell tied the judges’ vote and put the decision in the hands of the public.
Cowell has previously panned “Jedward’s” performances.
The twins have become firm favourites to win the ITV show despite wide criticism for their lack of singing talent.
Last week, ITV reported that group revenues fell 11% in the first nine months of the year to £1.3 billion.
