The multi-match deal will cover all the scheduled Barbarian fixtures this season, which will now be collectively known as ‘The Mastercard Trophy’.
As part of the agreement, MasterCard has access to the comprehensive rights and benefits package, including on and off-pitch branding. There will also be increased value to its commercial partners – including retailers and financial institutions – and cardholders through the promotion of ‘Priceless’ experiences.
Ben Rhodes, vice president marketing at MasterCard says sponsorships are a “critical component” of the company’s global marketing approach.
The sponsorship agreement will provide an impactful rugby platform for MasterCard, establishing a rugby heritage and building customer engagement towards the Rugby World Cup 2011, which MasterCard also sponsors.
The first MasterCard Trophy match takes place on 5 December against the All Blacks at Twickenham, London.
