Premium Spotify subscribers, who pay £9.99 per month for access to higher quality, ad-free streams, can now also listen via their mobile.

The Spotify Symbian app follows existing Android and iPhone apps which launched in August, as well its first operator deal with 3, as revealed by nma.

It allows subscribers to play music in the background while using other phone functions, download playlists to listen offline and create and synch playlists from the desktop app.

Gustav Söderström, director of portable solutions at Spotify, said the move instantly boosted its potential reach to millions of music fans. “This takes our mobile music offering to a totally new level,” he said. “Many mid to high-end Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung phone owners might be surprised to realise they can run Spotify on their phones.”
