Water company launches house flood campaign

United Utilities, the water company, is launching an integrated campaign to reduce the number of house floods caused by people flushing the wrong things down the toilet and kitchen sink.

The “What not to Flush” campaign, created by Origin Creative Design, hopes to educate people on what can and can’t be flushed and the problems caused by inappropriate items such as cooking oil and condoms being flushed.

It features an animated sewer monster character who emerges from the toilet or sink covered in items that shouldn’t be flushed and uses the strapline “What gets flushed might come back to haunt you”.

Ads will appear outdoor, online and in print.

Origin has also created “What not to Flush”, an online game that appears on the United Utilities website, where users have to catch items that can’t be flushed to defeat the sewer monster.
