Carphone Warehouse revenue and profits soar

The Carphone Warehouse has reported better than expected results in an interim statement and has raised its full-year guidance.

Revenue for the group was up 13% to £789m for the six months to 30 September while pre tax profited soared 88% to £75m.

The company added 124,000 new customers during the period, excluding those gained from the acquisition of broadband supplier Tiscali in July.

Carphone Warehouse says its customer base growth and increased marketing activity and higher customer acquisitions, caused an increase in subscriber acquisition and marketing costs, up 4% to £69m year-on-year.

The group says its demerger with broadband division TalkTalk is on track to complete by March 2010.

The demerger will result in two separately listed companies; TalkTalk group and Carphone Warehouse Group, which will include Best Buy Europe, Virgin Mobile France and Carphone Property.
