The two plan to hold dual branded events to highlight that reuniting and finding people is at the heart of both organisations. The organisations will reveal the details of the first event in January.

In addition to the annual corporate gift Friends Reinited gives its users, the social networking site will invite the 20.6 million users of its Friends Reunited, Genes Reunited and Friends Reunited Dating services to lend their support to the charity.

Andy Baker, Friends Reunited managing director, says: “Connecting friends and family I central to what we do so we will be working closely with the charity to make the most of this natural link to help find more people.”

In October, friends Reunited launched a television advertising campaign to boost perception of its three social networking sites.

The company was sold by ITV to Brightsolid, part of the DC Thomson publishing company for £25m in August. The broadcaster bought the site for £175m in 2005.
