New London free paper in the pipeline

A new London free newspaper is understood to be readying to launch in the capital, just two months after the London Lite and thelondonpapet closed.

According to reports, a newspaper called the London Weekly will be distributed twice a week outside of London Underground and British Rail stations. It is unclear if the paper will be distributed in the mornings or evenings.

A website for the new paper features its logo and says it will go live on December 20, though no publication date has been confirmed for the London Weekly. Reports suggest the paper will distribute 250,000 copies every week on Fridays and Saturdays across the capital and will be published by an unknown company called Global Publishing Group.

The launch comes after the London Lite, the free afternoon newspaper owned by Associated Press and thelondonpaper owned by News International were both closed after they were considered to not be commercially viable.

Metro currently has an exclusive distribution deal with Transport for London to be its morning free title, while the London Evening Standard is the only remaining free afternoon paper in the capital. City AM is also distributed outside train and tube stations in the morning.
