The Department of Health has introduced an iPhone application that enables drinkers to keep track of their drinking over the festive period.

The alcohol tracker allows users to work out how many alcoholic units they are drinking and how much alcohol they have consumed over a set period.

The application, which can be downloaded via iTunes or the NHS Choices website from today (1 December), will also provide personalised feedback on drinking habits and help people find local NHS clinics and advice centres.

Separately, Drinkaware, the industry sponsored alcohol information service, has launched a Christmas campaign aimed at raising awareness about drinking habits over the festive period.

The campaign also launches today and introduces a festive unit calculator that will allow visitors to the Drinkaware website to compare their drinking against nationwide consumption and calorie count against seasonal snacks.

The unit calculator will also appear on third-part sites such as MSN and Yahoo!

In addition, Drinkaware is undertaking a survey to find out more about nationwide drinking habits over Christmas.

Channel 4’s digital arm, 4iP has also launched an iPhone application. “You Booze, You Looze”, created by Digital Goldfish, also aims to make people think about their alcohol intake.
