Ikea launches catalogue iPhone app

Ikea, the Swedish furniture retailer, is launching its catalogue as an iPhone application.

The UK version of the catalogue will be available as a free app which lets customers flip through its pages on their Apple handset.

Ikea plans to involve customers in the development process and change and adapt the application is response to customer feedback.

The retailer has already reduced the distribution of its catalogue by 40% in a bid to be more environmentally friendly and the app is intended to be a greener way for customers to access its catalogue.

Jason Baker, IKEA UK & Ireland digital media and customer relationship management manager says: “We hope that by taking the UK version of the IKEA Catalogue 2010 onto a mobile handset it will be even easier for our customers to have home furnishing inspiration literally at their fingertips! The exciting part for us is starting with the application in its simplest form and developing it in tandem with our customers. We will listen and develop the app based on how they would like to use it.”
