Mysupermarket and NHS launch health checker

Mysupermarket.co.uk, the independent grocery comparison site, has teamed up with NHS Choices to launch a tool to help shoppers buy healthier food.

The Health Checker tool has been developed to make it easier for shoppers to check the nutritional content of their weekly shop. It is in response to research that showed over a third of UK consumers feel that it’s too time consuming and confusing to seek out healthier products on the shelf.

The supermarket Health Checker allows users to view the nutritional values of food products and suggests healthier alternatives with lower calories, saturated fat, salt and sugar levels.

It allows shoppers to search for foods based on lower levels of a particular nutrient, helping to find appropriate foods for low salt, or low fat diets and features a 5-a-day portion checker to help shoppers track the number of fresh fruit and vegetables in their shopping trolley.

Azmina Govindji, NHS Choices dietician says the Health Checker tool could “revolutionise” the weekly grocery shop as it provides a quick and easy way to shop healthily.

Amir Konigsberg, vice president of marketing and business development at Mysupermarket.co.uk, says: “The idea behind the Health Checker is to empower consumers by allowing hem to make more informed healthy food choices while they shop, as well as helping shoppers save time and money when buying healthier foods.”
