P&G to buy Ambi Pur from Sara Lee

Procter and Gamble has signed a €320m (£288.8m) deal to buy the Ambi Pur air freshener brand from Sara Lee Corporation.

Under the agreement, P&G will acquire Ambi Pur and several other toilet care products in 80 countries.

P&G says the acquisition “strengthens its global leadership” in the home and air care markets, extending its reach to more customers worldwide. It adds high-performance products and new technologies to its existing air care portfolio.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to complete by the end of the fiscal year on 30 June 2010.

David Taylor, P&G group president global home care, says: “We see many opportunities to leverage these additional technologies and P&G’s core capabilities in consumer understanding, innovation, brand building and go-to-market execution to grow both the Febreze and Ambi Pur brands robustly for many years to come.”

The deal follows the announcement in September that Unilever is to buy the personal care business of Sara Lee for €1.27bn (£1.16bn).
