O2 marketer to pursue own venture

Head of brand for O2 Susie Moore has opted not to return from maternity leave but is instead working on a new venture.

Prior to taking leave for the birth of her second son Moore had been seconded to O2 parent company Telefonica as head of brand innovation.

She will now be leaving O2 to pursue opportunities with an initiative under the title ‘brandplay’, details yet to be disclosed.

Moore was a key part of the team that expanded the O2 brand into new territories in Europe including the launch of the Czech Republic business.

She was also instrumental in achieving the deal with AEG, owner of the Millennium Dome, for the naming rights to The O2.

The position of head of brand at O2 UK is now held by Shadi Halliwell.

Sally Cowdry, UK marketing director, says: “We would like to thank Susie for her significant contribution to the O2 brand and the UK business over the last 7 years, and wish her every success in the future.”

O2 is looking at a number of brand extensions into areas such as healthcare, after its successful move into finance with the O2 Money brand.

The company is restructuring its 220 strong marketing department with an expected loss of 10% of the team.
