Campaign launched to cook Christmas turkeys properly

The Food Standards Agency has unveiled a new festive campaign aimed at ensuring consumers cook their turkeys thoroughly.

The campaign will run on TV and radio and includes the humorous ‘Turkey Tussle’, which is a seasonal reminder to cook your turkey thoroughly.

The ads are being aired from today (21 December) as part of the Agency’s campaign to help people avoid serving up food poisoning this Christmas.

In it, the agency will advise on three main ways to tell if poultry is cooked. These include checking that the meat is piping hot all the way through, and cutting into the thickest part of the meat to ensure that none of the meat is pink.

It also suggests checking that if juices run out when you pierce the turkey, or when you press the thigh, that they appear to be clear.

The ads will be played on TV and local radio stations in the run-up to Christmas. There will also be an online version on YouTube.
