Future launches dedicated superhero title

Future, the special-interest media publisher, is launching a superhero themed magazine, called Comic Heroes.

The new launch title aims to tap into the superhero trend and take advantage of a renewed interest in comic books following high profile launches of superhero films such as Batman, Iron Man and Spiderman.

The launch of the new magazine follows a successful “superheroes special” that sister title SFX, a sci-fi and fantasy magazine, ran last year.

It will be edited by Jez Bickham and will take an in-depth look at the latest superhero movies, videogames and comic books, including news, previews, reviews and comprehensive features.

Comic Heroes, will be published quarterly and the first 137-page issue is available in March, priced at £7.99. The launch issue features upcoming summer release, Iron Man 2.

Robert Price, Future UK chief executive, says: “We’re leaders in film and science-fiction media, so this launch makes absolute sense for us, particularly given the incredible popularity of the superhero genre at the moment.”

Stuart Galbraith, associate publisher of Comic Heroes and SFX, says: “Comic Heroes is a premium-priced magazine that promises to give die-hard fans a very special package. The interest in superhero movies is at an all-time high and with a massive slate of new movies in development it really looks as though we are entering the decade of the superhero – with new Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, Thor and X-Men movies due within the next few years, as well as the forthcoming Avengers film which brings many of Marvel’s biggest characters together in one epic.”
