Dennis acquires Health & Fitness magazine

Dennis Publishing, which produces Men’s Fitness has acquired female focussed Health & Fitness magazine from rival publisher Hubert Burda Media.

Health & Fitness had an ABC audited circulation of 35,436 in the first half of last year.

Under the deal, the Health & Fitness editorial and sales teams will stay with the title and join Dennis Publishing.

Pete Muir, the editorial director of Men’s Fitness will also head up the women’s fitness title.

Dennis acquired Men’s Fitness in the UK and Ireland in September last year.

Previously the title was published under licence from American Media.

In December, start-up publisher Wild Bunch Media launched its first title, Women’s Running, targeting the growing sector of female runners with a glossy monthly.

Wild Bunch Media was set up by former NatMag-Rodale publishing director Nick Troop and the former IPC circulation director Kevin McCormick.

In the latest ABC audited figures, specialist fitness magazines were one of the few sectors performing well while women’s glossies and lad’s mags saw sliding circulation.

NatMag Rodale’s Men’s Health registered a 2.1% year-on-year increase to 250,247 while Dennis title Men’s Fitness rose 3.6% year-on-year to 67,987.
