NHS Smokefree to sponsor celebrity quitters

NHS Smokefree is to sponsor “Celebrity Quitters”, a reality TV show to help celebrity smokers quit.

Quit Smoking

The series launches on Five today (18 January) and follows five celebrity smokers as they attempt to quit using a variety of methods ranging from nicotine patches to complimentary therapies such as hypnotherapy.

The light-hearted sponsorship idents, created by MCBD, feature a spoof celebrity agent from Encore! Talent Management, who takes bookings for mock-reality shows such as Celebrity Bomb Disposal and Gladiator the Musical, for celebrity clients who now have the physical stamina to take part since they’ve quit smoking.

The series is timed to launch in January to appeal to smokers who are trying to quit smoking as part of New Year’s resolutions.

The show stars Birds of a Feather actress Linda Robson, Michelin star chef John Burton Race, ex-Hollyoaks actor Paul Danan, TV medium Derek Acorah and model and presenter Chloe Madeley.

In December last year, NHS Smokefree teamed up with Microsoft Advertising to launch an online campaign across MSN Messenger, the MSN homepage and Windows Mobile to help smokers quit.
