Bing was the fastest growing search engine in the US last month as it continues to close in on Yahoo’s market share.

ComScore data showed that total US searches increased by 2% month on month to 14.74bn, with Bing queries increasing by 6% from 1.48bn in November to 1.58bn in December.

In contrast, Yahoo remained relatively stable, only increasing slightly, from 2.53bn queries to 2.54bn, while Google was up by 2% from 9.48bn to 9.69bn.

Total share split is still dominated by Google, with 65.7% of the market – up 0.1% on November. However, Yahoo slipped by 0.2% from 17.5% to 17.3%, with Bing up from 10.3% to 10.7%.

Microsoft launched Bing in June aiming to overtake Yahoo as the number two search engine (nma.co.uk 28 May 2009). The UK full launch was in November.
