GMG Radio names commercial strategy chief

GMG Radio has recruited Mediacom’s Richard Jacobs to take the role of head of commercial strategy.

Jacobs held the tile head of radio planning and buying at Mediacom.

He is tasked to manage and deliver commercial strategy and insight for the GMG Radio brands Real Radio, Smooth Radio, Rock Radio to clients, agencies and commercial partners. He reports to group commercial director Jonathan Gillespie.

Jacobs will be responsible for managing direct client relationships, insight, brand strategy and trade marketing functions.

He joined Mediacom in 2002 and, has been responsible for overseeing planning and buying for the radio advertising spend for clients such as The Metropolitan Police, VW Audi Group, Wrigley and Royal Bank of Scotland.

He is a former head of sponsorship and promotions at EMAP Radio.

Gillespie was appointed a year ago and joined from Google UK where he was head of Youtube and display. He replaced Stuart Taylor, who was promoted to chief executive.

Gillespie says: “We are delighted to welcome Richard to this new role within the group; he will have a real impact in the market place. His experience at Mediacom places him perfectly to help move the GMG Radio Commercial Strategy to where the Real, Smooth and Rock Radio brands become even stronger in a competitive market place.”
