Shing, who joined the internet giant in 2007, moves up from being European marketing director, and will report in to AOL Europe head Kate Burns.

He is responsible for driving the company’s marketing strategy across the continent, as well as expanding its consumer offering.

Burns said, “We are building differentiated interactive and original content experiences for consumers and David will play a key role in leading our drive to become the largest scaled player in world-class, technology-driven content platforms.”

The move comes a week after AOL appointed Andrew Moore as its new head of agency sales, Toby Morris as head of premium sales and Robert Blake as head of performance sales.

All appointments come as AOL continues to restructure its business following its spin-off from parent company Time Warner last year.
