Mars unveils new England football themed ad

Mars is unveiling a new television advert, championing its sponsorship of the England team ahead of the World Cup. The ad is the first stage in Mars’s “Work Rest Play for England” marketing push.

The ad features seven former England players recounting some of their proudest moments wearing the England football shirt. The players reminisce about how it feels to play for England, pull on the famous three lions shirt and to have played a part in some of the most celebrated moments in English football history.

Players featured include Stuart Pearce (pictured), Peter Shilton, Viv Anderson, Terry Butcher, Hope Powell, Martin Peters and Bert Williams.

Mars says it created the ad to celebrate putting the 3 lions on the Mars bar. The company aims to build excitement around supporting England in South Africa, with new bars available in English stores from this week, featuring the England badge.

A Mars spokesperson says: “We really wanted to capture that feeling of pride the players get when they pull on the England shirt. It was incredible to hear these legends talk so openly about their personal experiences of playing for England. Mars is supporting England by proudly putting the Three Lions crest on all our Mars Bars in the run up to the tournament in South Africa.”
