Virgin Media increases revenue by 3.3% and plans 100Mb broadband

Virgin Media is to offer broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps this year after revealing total revenues increased by 3.3% to £980m for the final quarter of last year.

It said the increase was a result of a 6.1% growth in consumer cable revenue and increasing demand for higher speed broadband.

Virgin Media increased the number of customers of its 20Mbps or higher service by 45% over the last year and is planning to launch 100Mbps to the public later this year.

Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media, said, “Despite other operators’ embryonic investment in fibre, Virgin Media’s cable network will, for the foreseeable future, provide an unparalleled platform for delivering successive generations of new and innovative services. We’re exploiting this advantage by expanding our trials of a 200Mbps broadband service and are planning the commercial launch of a 100Mbps service later this year.”

Virgin Media is currently reviewing its marketing agency suppliers.
