The News of the World is partnering with E.on to give away energy savings gadgets to all its readers over the next three weeks. The promotion will be supported with a heavyweight TV, press and digital advertising campaign, starting today (4 March).

The newspaper says it is its biggest ever energy saving giveaway, and is part of its ongoing ’Go Green & Save’ campaign. It will also be promoted with a radio PR campaign featuring News of the World journalist Daniel Jones who pens the money saving ’Captain Cash’ page, and E.on’s ’Green Queen’ Emma Thompson.

Readers will be offered three energy saving gadgets that the newspaper claims will help to save over 26,000 tonnes of carbon from being released into the atmosphere a year – the equivalent of over 480 million kettles being boiled. This could help them to achieve combined savings of over £9m on utility bills a year.

The gadgets will be available to pick up with relevant coupons from over 500 Sainsbury’s stores. They include a TV PowerDown, a multi-plug that automatically switches off any electrical equipment connected to a TV when it is turned off , a Desktop PC PowerDown to automatically switch off any equipment connected to a desktop computer when it is shut down and a ShowerSave to regulate the flow of water and minimise temperature discrepancies.

The promotion follows the first phase of the papers’ campaign, which launched in 2008 and has already given readers over £1m cash in exchange for their recycled mobile phones.
