Virgin Media makes World Cup available in full HD

Virgin Media will screen the World Cup matches in HD, after it agreed a deal with ITV to add ITV1 HD to its listings from 2 April.

The cable network already offers BBC HD to its subscriber base and says the addition of ITV1 HD will mean all of the summer tournament will be available in full high-definition coverage for the duration of the Cup’s run.

Both channels are available on Virgin Media’s digital TV platform and included in all of Virgin Media’s TV packages at no extra cost.

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, says: “ITV offers some of the UK’s most loved programmes and we’re delighted to add them to our growing HD channel line-up. This year’s World Cup promises some unforgettable games and Virgin Media TV viewers will be able to enjoy every nail-biting, heart-stopping, breath-taking moment in stunning High Definition.”

Earlier this week, the network announced it would premiere Film4HD and add E4 HD to its listings.
