Matt Brocklehurst joins AdMob from Yahoo

AdMob has bolstered its UK team with the appointment of senior Yahoo marketer Matt Brocklehurst to the newly-created role of head of marketing, EMEA, as its proposed takeover by Google awaits approval from US regulator the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Brocklehurst joined the mobile ad network last week although he declined to comment further on exactly what his role would entail.

Brocklehurst joins Admob from Yahoo where he served as head of EU trade marketing between July 2008 until last month. He formerly held the position of head of marketing at Latitude from 2006 until 2008.

The move comes as reports emerged of the FTC compiling evidence for a possible challenge to Google’s’s US$750 million takeover of AdMob on the grounds the combined entity would have a near-monopoly on the mobile advertising market.

While the FTC moves do not necessarily mean the acquisition will be challenged, it does indicate that Google’s buyout is not a forgone conclusion.

At present Admob remains a privately held company – consisting of 150 employees – pending approval from the US regulator. The company serves nearly 12 billion mobile ads per month with the majority of these requests received from iPhone users according to the company.
