The mobile phone network is currently looking internally and externally for candidates to replace Rampling in the head of consumer mobile in the UK.

Rampling will take up his new position on 1 May and report directly to René Schuster, O2 Germany’s chief executive.

He is tasked with positioning O2 as one of the three major integrated telecommunications providers in Germany.

He has more than 20 years’ experience in telecommunications and marketing across consumer and business markets and has previously worked at BT and BT Cellnet where he was involved in the launch and transition to O2.

He also oversaw marketing during UK marketing director Sally Cowdry’s recent maternity leave.

Cowdry says Rampling will continue to work closely with the UK business as O2 shares ideas and learns from other markets.
