Shields left Bebo last year where she had most recently been CEO as well as president of people platforms at AOL. She has since partnered with Shine Group CEO Elisabeth Murdoch to launch an online media content venture (nma.co.uk 17 September 2009). Before joining Bebo she was MD of strategic partnerships at Google.

“With its culture of authentic identity, Facebook is redefining marketing and transforming how businesses and consumers interact,” said Shields. “It’s a privilege to help lead this kind of change for Facebook in EMEA. I can’t think of a more important and interesting professional challenge.”

Facebook has also promoted former EMEA commercial director Blake Chandlee to the new role of VP of sales for emerging markets as the social network looks to expand its presence in Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Chandlee said, “I’m pleased to be taking on the challenge of expanding Facebook’s sales channels to more countries. We’re already seeing tremendous interest from advertisers in Asia, Latin America and beyond, and expect these regions to play a significant role in our global sales strategy.”
