Yahoo! and Samsung extend mobile service partnership

Yahoo! and Samsung have extended their global handset tie-up to give owners of Samsung devices powered by the Android and Bada operating systems access to Yahoo!’s services.

The deal means Samsung users can access services such as Yahoo! Mail, Messenger, Front Page and Weather via software embedded on their handsets.

Samsung has partnered with Yahoo! since 2007 to embed the web company’s services directly on its handsets and claims the deal will make them available to millions more users.

David Ko, Yahoo!’s senior VP of audience, mobile and local, says: “By making our most popular services available on Samsung mobile devices, we’re providing consumers with personally relevant mobile internet experiences that make it easy for them to stay connected to what’s important to them and explore the full potential of their device.”

Samsung is the second largest mobile phone manufacturer in terms of shipments and is expected to launch devices using its proprietary operating system Bada in June. It debuted its Android handset line-up late last year.

The two companies have previously partnered to embed Yahoo! widgets on Samsung TV sets, which enable users to access web services while watching broadcast TV.
