The deal, subject to contract, will let football fans watch five-minute highlight packages of Barclays Premier League matches on yahoo.co.uk.

Starting in August with the 2010/11 season, highlights will be available from midnight on Sunday after weekend matches and at midnight the same day for midweek fixtures.

Yahoo has made similar video content deals in the US, where sport fans can view highlights of the NBA, PGA and NHL.

Rich Riley, Yahoo’s European MD, said, “The acquisition of Premier League rights shows how serious we are about providing the best in video content for our both our users and advertisers.”

Yahoo will be able to syndicate all or part of the Premier League content to third parties.

Richard Scudamore, CEO of the Premier League, said, “The way fans access Barclays Premier League action is growing more diverse and sophisticated. The online highlights package is an important medium for supporters of all our clubs to be able to follow match action.”
