Best Buy reveals opening weekend deals

Best Buy has revealed the details of many of the promotions and activities it will be offering during its four-day opening weekend festival this Bank Holiday weekend.

The US electricals giant has pledged that it will give customers their money back on any TV over £499 bought before 5 June if England wins the World Cup final.

Offers include saving £300 on Samsung’s current 32” LED HD TV, which will be on sale at £399.99.

The store will be the first place UK customers can see all four manufacturers of 3D TV; Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony, for sale under one roof.

Each of the four days will follow a different theme, allowing customers to experience a range of activities in an entertainment dome Best Buy has constructed outside the store.

Friday will have a “festival feel” with entertainers including face-painters and breakdancers. Saturday will be music-themed with an Ion Discover DJ mixing session and a chance to win Dr Dre signed Monster headphones between 8am and 9pm.

Saturday will celebrate the release of James Cameron’s Avatar on Blu-ray and DVD while Sunday will be devoted to Nintendo gaming experiences.

There will also be competitions running throughout the weekend for customers to win DVDs, gig tickets and smartphone prizes.

In addition to a partnership with Virgin Media, Best Buy has also teamed up with Sky to make its products and services available in store.

A guide to the deals and offers will be available in stores and online.

Best Buy revealed it’s Bank Holiday marketing push earlier this week. As part of its launch weekend marketing, Best Buy has launched an aggressive national press campaign targeting its biggest UK rival Currys.

The ads attack Currys for cutting the prices in its Thurrock store to directly rival Best Buy prices in the store, which opens in Thurrock on Friday (30 April), but not in stores elsewhere in the UK.

Best Buy encourages shoppers to go to local branches of Currys and demand the same price.

The store in Thurrock, Essex opens on Friday 30 April at 7am.
