Mail Online top newspaper site with over 2m users a day

Mail Online remains the most popular UK newspaper website, with a daily average of 2.24m unique browsers in March, according to the first ABCE results since News International withdrew fom the monthly report.

The figures no longer record traffic to The Sun and Times Online, which during February received 1.4m and 1.2m unique browsers a day respectively.

Earlier this month new media age revealed that News International will withdraw from the monthly audit following its annoucement that it will introduce paywalls in June (nma 1 April 2010). From June The Times and Sunday Times will charge £1 for a day’s access to their websites or £2 for a weekly pass.

The latest ABCE report shows most online newspapers had a small drop in traffic in March.

The Guardian attracted 1.85m unique browsers a day, down 0.83% from February. The Telegraph’s site received 1.56m, up 0.59%.

Mirror Group Digital also saw a small dip in traffic, the average number of daily browsers down 0.37% to 467,711.

The Independent’s traffic fell by 4.25% to an average 445,588 users a day.
