The UK consumer electricals chain has launched a television and press campaign offering customers £5 off every £50 spent in store as well as deals that offer up to half price on items including digital cameras, laptops and games consoles such as the Nintendo Wii.

Yesterday, Best Buy launched an aggressive press advertisment attacking rival DSGi owned chain Currys for cutting the prices in its Thurrock store to directly rival Best Buy prices but not in stores elsewhere in the UK.

Best Buy encourages shoppers to go to local branches of Currys and demand the same price.

US Chain Best Buy opened at 7am this morning in Thurrock, Essex with a four-day “festival” event with entertainment and promotional prices and deals.

Best buy ramped up its localised launch campaign with a press campaign including a cover wrap of free London morning newspaper Metro and ads running throughout the paper highlighting its opening offers and its in store services.

The chain revealed some of its opening offers yesterday, (29 April) which include saving £300 on Samsung’s current 32” LED HD TV, which will be on sale at £399.99.

The US electricals giant also pledged to give customers their money back on any TV over £499 bought before 5 June if England wins the World Cup final.
