The galleries tell the story of London and its people from 1666 to the present day and open on 28 May.

The in-house creative team has devised the outdoor and London-wide press campaign under the banner “You are here” together with creative agency NB: Studio.

The visuals consist of images from the museum’s extensive art and photographic collections that capture both everyday and life-changing moments in London’s history and make its citizens the heroes, accompanied by the slogan “You are here”.

Oyster card wallets, featuring images, such as Londoners seeking shelter in Elephant & Castle Underground station during World War II, will be handed out to commuters in the week prior to launch.

An iPhone app, designed by Brothers and Sisters, has gone live. The app guides users to sites across London where they can view over 200 images from the museum’s collections in situ to reveal the city’s hidden histories.

Vicky Lee, marketing manager, says: “With the Olympics only two years away, the launch of our new galleries provides us with the opportunity to reposition the Museum of London as a modern museum with London’s contemporary identity as a vibrant world city at its heart.

“Through creative collaborations, the development of innovative technology to reach new audiences, and a significant investment in marketing, we relaunch the museum as an inspirational, world-class destination that is a must-see for Londoners and tourists alike.’
