Absolute Radio launches 90s music digital station

Absolute Radio is to launch a new digital station, Absolute 90s, in a bid to increase its audience reach.

Absolute Radio 90s will play music from bands such as Blur, Oasis, Texas, Lenny Kravitz, Beautiful South, and Sheryl Crow, and will be available on the London DAB network from June.

The station’s 80s station, which launched in December on London DAB and online will go on national DAB from today (14 May).

Absolute 80s attracts weekly 264,000 listeners to date, according to Rajar’s latest figures.

The Absoute Radio network now includes Absolute Radio, Absolute 80s and 90s, Absolute Classic Rock and online user-controlled station Dabbl.

Yesterday Rajar reported a 5.6% year-on-year rise in the network’s total hours for the first quarter.

The commercial radio group’s online listeners rose in March, with 7.9m hours streamed worldwide, up from 7.5m in February.
