Restaurant vouchers most popular online discount

Vouchers for restaurants are now the most popular kind of online discount, saving consumers £3m a day, according to research by Moneysupermarket.com.

The comparison site claims that diners saved £3bn last year by redeeming online vouchers for meals in restaurants in the UK.

The research says the stigma of using a discount coupon has reduced and that 60% of consumers now regularly use the promotional vouchers.

In the past year, the number of consumers using online vouchers in restaurants ahs risen by 30% and consumers use a voucher once a month on average.

High street restaurant chains Pizza Express, Pizza Hut and Zizzi are the most popular restaurant vouchers.

Pizza Express has offered a selection of e-coupons since the onset of the recession offering buy one get one free on selected menu items, second main meals for £1 and set menu deals including a starter, drink and main meal for £10.

The research found that 22% of consumers refuse to go to a restaurant that doesn’t offer discounts and 50% check for deals before eating out.
