BBC Trust says Canvas judgement is weeks away

The BBC Trust has confirmed it’s looking to finalise its appraisal of Project Canvas within weeks.

A spokeswoman said, “No exact date has been set but we’re aiming to conclude it as soon as possible, and it will be weeks not months.”

The Trust had been waiting for Canvas to be cleared by the Office of Fair Trading before pressing ahead with its own appraisal.

Last month, the OFT revealed it wouldn’t investigate the proposed IPTV service between broadcasters the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, ISPs BT and TalkTalk, and Arqiva, saying, “It doesn’t qualify for investigation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.”
