The energy supplier will use the trio to encourage Britons to join “Team Green Britain” ahead of the second annual “Green Britain Day” on 17 June.

Model and presenter Lineker will encourage consumers to save energy in their homes, while presenter Laverne will “ask people to take a low-carbon approach to sourcing and cooking food”. Singer Jamelia will front an initiative to encourage people to travel in a more environmentally friendly way.

EDF’s first Green Britain Day attracted controversy last year after wind turbine energy company Ecotricity alleged EDF had stolen its green union jack logo to push the initiative.

Rivals including British Gas also hit out by running ads claiming that for it, “every day” was “Green Britain Day”.

The sophomore event will be supported by a television, radio, print and digital campaign.

EDF Energy is to sponsor Team Green Britain Bike Week in June and sustainability event The Big Lunch in July. It is also the sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
