British Red Cross launches viral video to raise HIV-awareness

The British Red Cross is releasing a viral football video that seeks to take advantage of World Cup fever, in an attempt to raise awareness about HIV and AIDs in South Africa. The video stars the ’world’s best freestyle footballer’, Billy Wingrove, along with talented young footballers from South Africa. It will be released on the opening day of the FIFA World Cup.

British Red Cross programme support manager Diane Moody says: “While the eyes of the world are on the excitement of the World Cup in South Africa, this video will remind football fans of the massive challenges people living with HIV and AIDS in the country face, and the work the Red Cross is doing to help those affected.”

The video was shot at White Hart Lane, the stadium of Tottenham Hotspurs, and in the South African province KwaZulu-Natal. The province has the lowest life expectancy in South Africa.
