Owen will take over the marketing director role and be responsible for advertising and marketing strategy.
It was revealed yesterday that Sinnock left Asda after just 15 moths in the role. It is not yet known if he has a job to go to.
Owen is tasked with driving the marketing communications for the Asda Price Guarantee, the “We Sell For Less” programme and Asda’s five customer pledges.
He will lead the Wal-Mart owned chain’s national advertising, customer insight and pricing teams.
Owen is credited with masterminding the Asda Price Guarantee and creating the Mysupermarket campaign.
He joined the Asda marketing team as head of research in February 2005.
Sinnock joined the supermarket from advertising agency Fallon and went on to move Asda’s advertising account out of the agency to SFF stablemate Saatchi & Saatchi.
In May Asda revealed disappointing quarter 1 results as the supermarket struggles to keep up with rivals. Like for like sales fell 0.3% while total sales growth was in the “low single digits” for the 12 weeks ending 31 March.
Asda promoted its chief operating officer Andy Clarke to CEO after Andy Bond stepped down in May.
