The station, due to begin broadcasting on Sky and Freesat on September 1, will also show new music videos for 500 songs recorded before the video age.

Chief executive David Pick, a former executive at music publisher EMI, will head the network and has assembled a team of executives with both music and television backgrounds. Former ITV and Granada head of production Teresa Watts will have the same role at Vintage; radio producer Phil Swern becomes programme and music consultant; and TV producer Clare Bramley will be business development director. Music pundit and broadcaster Paul Gambaccini will be the principal presenter for the new service. Journalist Lesley-Ann Jones will host a talkshow welcoming a range of personalities, including Rick Wakeman, Roger Daltrey and Debbie Harry.

The station will also broadcast rare concert and performance footage and revisit news and entertainment shows from numerous TV archives.

Vintage TV will air classic news, culture and social history material from the archives of ITN, the BBC, ILikeMusic, Channel 4, Eagle Rock and DCD Rights. Among the new programmes will be a show based on The Antiques Roadshow and aimed at music collectors.
