Selfridges in talks with agencies

Selfridges has approached advertising agencies with a view to creating a new brand campaign for the upmarket department store.

The move comes more than a year after it parted company with its agency of record Beattie McGuinness Bungay.

The agency was enlisted to design a website celebrating Selfridge’s centenary, which focused on iconic moments from the store’s history and revolved around the strapline ’Open to the world since 1909’.

BMB was responsible for the Christmas campaign that featured Selfridge’s most desirable presents strewn around a magical forest.

The campaign was run in 2007 and delivered through press, digital and outdoor media.

Late last year Wieden & Kennedy London was appointed to create an installation in Selfridges’ flagship London store to celebrate its 100 years anniversary.

W&K designed and dressed all the windows on the West-facing site to the Oxford Street building, dedicated to luxury designers.

Selfridges opened for business on the internet early this year (March 2010) making it the last major retailer to operate a shopping website.
