Vodafone confirms group marketing cuts

Vodafone is cutting around 10% of jobs from its group marketing function, following a corporate review of its group marketing team, as first revealed by Marketing Week.

The company called the review following the departure of global brand director David Wheldon and global director of customer insight Andy Moore, who they intend to replace.

Interim replacement Harit Nagpal, formerly chief marketing officer of Vodafone Essar will leave the firm at the end of August, to join Sky India as its CEO.

A company spokesperson says the majority of jobs lost occurred as a result of the closure of the Business Wayfinder division in March. Around 100 jobs in total have been made redundant.

Group chief marketing officer Wendy Becker led the changes. Becker is a former managing director of TalkTalk and joined the company last September. She is a member of the company’s executive board and has been tasked with renewing the company’s brand strategy.

Nagpal’s deputy, global brand director of strategy David Erixon, is also leaving, but will not be replaced by Vodafone.

Last month, Vodafone Group vowed to continue operating in the mobile advertising sector following the strategic review of its business.

Wheldon stood down from his role at the company earlier this year, after six years in the position. Moore joined consultancy Nunwood as its strategy director in March.
